New Library System

Thank you for your patience with the transition to our new library system.  During this transition period we have taken away the remote access to our catalog. With the new system you are able to be notified by e-mail of any reserves being held for you.  We just need to add your e-mail address to your account.  You may also be notified one day of each week of your status showing what books you have out. Again, we just need to add your e-mail address and the day of the week you would like to be notified to your record.

Overdue Library Materials and the Food Pantry

Did you finally find that book or dvd you were looking for?  Scared to bring it back thinking there are huge fines on it?  Has it crossed your mind that maybe you won’t return it because of the cost?  Guess what?  You are saved!!  Due to our new computer system, we are granting amnesty during the month of September for all overdue items.  Please clean out your house, look under the bed, under the couch cushions, in the trunk of the car, etc. and bring back whatever library materials you may have out that you think are overdue without penalty to your wallet.  Take advantage of this gift to the community as these occasions don’t happen on an annual basis!  It’s a win-win situation for all of us.
Last week we mentioned there would be an exception regarding past fines but Christmas has arrived early and we have been given the word that we may even waive the exception!  Sooo, if you do have fines or even think that you do, please,  just bring in any of the following items to donate to the New Fairfield Food Pantry and ALL fines will be waived.  You can start off this new school year with a clean slate.

Items Needed for the New Fairfield Food Pantry  (drop off boxes are located upstairs and downstairs in the library for your convenience):

Toilet paper, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner for both adults and children, toothbrushes for adults and children, dish detergent, laundry detergent, sponges, any canned vegetables except beans, any canned soup or fruit, tomato sauce, cereal, canned meat, condiments, grape jelly and peanut butter.

September is Library Card Month

September is Library Card Month.  Please stop in and see us and get cards for everyone in the family.    Due to some identity issues, your protection, and the computer system’s program, we will be requiring patrons to show a library card , driver’s license, or some other form of identification in order to check out materials.  Until the end of September, anyone who has lost a card may get a new one without having to pay the $2.00 replacement fee.  We can offer you a regular or key-chain card for ease of use.  Take advantage of this offer!

Sunday Hours

The library is back to being open on Sundays.  Our hours of operation on Sundays are from 1 to 4 pm.

Book Sale Donations

The library will be accepting donations until September 15 for the Friends of the Library September 22 and 23 book sale in the Community Room.   We cannot accept encyclopedias, magazines, or Reader’s Digest books.  Please do not bring boxes/bags of books to the library and leave them outside or put them in the driveway book drop.  Donations will gladly be accepted during library hours.

Summer Reading Logs

Parents, please come in and pick up your child’s summer reading logs.  Attach them to the Governor’s Reading Challenge log (extras are available) and submit them both to your child’s teacher.   Your children’s library logs will be held until, Saturday, September 15.  Please don’t let all that reading go to waste.  All those logs are tabulated and the results sent to Governor Rell’s office where we are in competition with all the other towns in the state for a monetary prize and party.  This is serious competition, folks, so let’s rise to the occasion and Go New Fairfield!
