Museum Passes

With so many people taking “staycations” these days, consider using a museum pass from the library.  Passes are checked out for three days and incur a $2.00 late fee when overdue.  Passes are available at the Adult Circulation Desk.  We have passes for the following:  Beardsley Zoo, Bridgeport; Dinosaur State Park, Rocky Hill; Discovery Museum, Bridgeport; Peabody Museum, New Haven; Children’s Museum, West Hartford and Roaring Brook Nature Center, Canton; Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford; Maritime Aquarium, Norwalk; Mystic Aquarium, Mystic; Stepping Stones Museum for Children, Norwalk; and the State Park Pass.  The State Park Pass also includes admission to Dinosaur State Park, Fort Trumbull, and Gillette Castle.  Plan to have an enjoyable day trip with these free or discounted passes.

Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library currently have a great fundraiser going on at the library.  They are selling earth-friendly, reusable tote bags for $2.50 each.  They come in red, royal blue, purple, teal and hunter green.  Not only are they great for carrying books, but they are also wonderful for groceries, beach items, toys, car organizer, etc.

Housecleaning

This is a perfect time of year to do some housecleaning.  Many items can be found in closets, under the couches, beds, etc.  If you should find any library materials, please do not hesitate to return them.  With our budget being cut, it is very important that we not have to re-order items that we already own.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Summer Reading

The summer reading program ends on August 6.  There is still time to participate in order to earn coupons and raffle tickets.  Library reading logs can be attached to the Governor’s Reading Challlenge logs and sent to school in September.   The end of the summer reading raffle prize drawing will be held Friday, August 8, 7:30 pm at Squantz Pond this year in partnership with Park and Rec’s summer drive-in showing of the movie “Antz.”  Participants do not have to be present to win.  All names drawn will be called if they are not present.  Park and Rec will be providing the entertainment.  Let’s hope for good weather!  In case of inclement weather, the library staff will draw the names and call the winners.
