TV Turn Off Week
This is TV Turn Off Week. If you choose to participate, what do you do
instead of watching TV? Rediscover the
library as one option! The library has,
in addition to books, magazines, audio books, puzzles, DVD’s (but then that
would cheating), newspapers, and music cd’s in addition to a multitude of
services available to our patrons. For
those looking to venture out of the home, there are museum passes available for
free or at a discount that go out for three days. We have a wealth of resources; please check
us out!
Copy Machines
At this time of year, the parents of those graduating
are asked to submit copies of pictures for the Memorabilia Wall. The library has copiers for color and black
and white pictures. We charge ten cents
for black and white copies and fifty cents for color. With the gas prices being what they are,
coming here to make your copies is much cheaper than driving to Staples in

May 7, Weds., Author Talk, 6:30-8 pm. Charles Monagan, author of Connecticut Icons and editor of
Connecticut Magazine will discuss places to visit in
May 9, Friday, Mini-Album Making Workshop,
6:30-7:30 pm. Tricia Grauert will assist
teens and adults in assembling a mini-scrapbook album. A material fee of $15 will be collected at
time of registration.
May 21, Weds., Page Turners, 6:45-7:45
pm. The book selection for this month is
Emma Brown by Clare Boylan. Copies are available in the library. Join us for a lively discussion

Drop in Storytime, 10:30-11 am.
Storytime with Ms. JoAnn every Thursday, unless school is closed. Stories, music and movement for all ages. No registration required.
May 2, Friday, It’s a Small World, 1:30-2:15
pm. Travel to foreign lands with Elyse
Felicione and learn about different countries with fun activities and crafts. This six-week session for children ages four and
five runs 5/2, 5/16, 5/23, 5/30, 6/6 and 6/13..
May 2, Friday, Illustrator Visit, 6:30-7:30
pm. Robert Casilla, illustrator of many
children’s books, will show participants the process he uses for illustrating
his books and read a portion of one of his stories. Sponsored by the Community Literacy Council.
May 3, Saturday, Anne of Green Gables 100th
Anniversary Event, 2-3:30 pm. A
parent/child event filled with fun activities, crafts and food based on the
book series. Sponsored by the Friends of
the Library.
Volunteer Applications for Summer Reading
The application for summer reading program volunteers
is now available on the library’s website, www.newfairfieldlibrary.org, or
if you happen to be in the area, at the Children’s Circulation Desk. Volunteers must attend one training session
out of the two that will be offered. The
first training session will be held on Monday, June 2 at 4 pm. The other session will be on Wednesday, June
11 at 6:30 pm.
Bookflix
Bookflix is a new online literacy resource
from Scholastic that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with
related nonfiction eBooks from to build a love of reading and learning. The engaging way to link fact and faction, Bookflix
reinforces early reading skills and introduces children, pre-k to grade three,
to a world of knowledge and exploration.
This site contains educational games and is a wonderful resource for
educators. Bookflix is available as a
link from our home page and by inserting the barcode from your library
card.
